Botox®

• Advantages: lasts 3 to 4 months giving skin a smooth more refreshed look
   

• Undesired effects possible: stings and burns during injection, synthetic stiff plastic appearance, short-term eyelid droop, headaches
   

• Potential harmful side effects : rare, but possible systemic risk, long term use effects are not known but certain doses have been fatal to lab rats.

Chemical Peel

• Advantages: painted on skin like mask in varying strengths, acid solution peels layers of skin used to improve skin texture, lasts 6 mos to 1 year
   

• Undesired effects possible: medium to deep peel leaves skin red and a surface crust forms.  Flaking of skin thereafter and could remain red for 1 month.  The deeper the peel the more painful and longer to recovery
   

• Potential harmful side effects : uneven results are not uncommon and potential for permanent scarring are rare yet possible

IPL (Intense Pulsed
Light) Photorejuvenation

• Advantages: treats hyper pigmentation, skin blemishes redness, caused by broken blood vessels to improve skin texture last 2 - 3 years
   

• Undesired effects possible: as with laser causes mild wound, risk of redness, pain, blistering, bruising, flaking
   

• Potential harmful side effects : permanent scarring is rare but possible

• Advantages: stimulates collagen growth and causes skin to tighten
   

• Undesired effects possible: most find the procedure painful with persistent unsightly redness, swelling and discomfort and downtown could include blisters and about 50% say they see no improvements
   

• Potential harmful side effects : requires a physician's oversight however still has a risk of scarring indentions and dimpling

Restylane®

• Advantages: excellent as a lip filler, limited as a wrinkle agent, last 6 to 9 months with repeated treatments
   

• Undesired effects possible: risk of redness, mild pain, swelling for several days
   

• Potential harmful side effects : last longer that collagen filler, physician required, there are no known side effects

Laser Skin Treatments

• Advantages: can get results they typically don't show for 3 to 6 months and last for 1 to 2 years
   

• Undesired effects possible: risk of redness, swelling, blistering and skin sensitivity, typically for use only on the face
   

• Potential harmful side effects : physician required because this is a cell altering treatment with risk of serious scarring

Plastic Surgery

• Advantages: can provide radical change in facial appearance
   

• Undesired effects possible: many times patient is left with a "plastic" look that becomes a distraction for years
   

• Potential harmful side effects : physician required and as with any serious surgery requiring anesthetics the dangers are many
